Good Morning Lovelies!!

The Hoe Downs would most likely be the most memorable events of my Truett experience.  We danced, ate grilled corn, and just had an all around good time. These are some pictures throughout the years…

Hi Friends!! Sorry I have been so absent lately. I am finally finished with my senior paper, got my wisdom teeth out, and have a week off of school before I go into finals!! I feel like everything is beginning to wind down. All I have left now is finals, a few term papers, graduation, and wedding stuff. One of the wedding events happens to be the rehearsal dinner, and I have been looking for the perfect dress for quite a while now. Here are some that I found from LuLu's:

From Top Left: Pastoral Reverie Red Print Dress ($61); Ravishing Rhododendrom Pink Dress ($56); Lila Lace One Shoulder Pink Dress ($42); Boysenberry Popsicle One Shoulder Purple Dress ($46)

Hmm...I'm thinkin' Pink!!

How were your weekends?  I had my wisdom teeth taken out...YAY!!!

Reflections on Ethiopia

If I could pin my heart on any one location in the world it would have to be Ethiopia. Not necessarily because of geographical reasons, but because I have fallen in love with the people. Today is one of those days when I long to be where my heart has been placed.

My Ethiopian journey began way before I ever even got on a plane to go, and it actually doesn’t even start with me, but my dad. About 8 years ago my dad agreed to commit to 3 years of going to Ethiopia, twice a year, in 1-week increments. The idea of the trip is that he would be training pastors in whatever culture he went to. He could have chosen any location around the world, but he decided that he would go where no one else wanted to. That place ended up being Ethiopia.

On my dads first trip, he met a little shoe shining street boy named Tomeru. After giving the boy a tip, Tomeru quickly ran away and came back with a pack of gum to give to my dad as a thank you. They both went on their way, and my dad had nothing but a picture of the “shoe shining boy.”  Who would think that in a city of over a million people that my dad would run into the same boy the second and third time he went to Ethiopia by complete coincident. This could only be of God’s doing that this happened.

The third trip that he went on, Tomeru’s friend, Ambzach came up to my dad and told him that she knew who he was. Dad was slightly confused because he did not remember her, until she told him that she was Tomeru’s friend. She went on to say that he was hurt and wanted to see my dad, so my dad followed her as she led them to his house. (By the way, Tomeru’s house happened to be a 6x6 room made of dried manure and sticks that fit all 6 of his family members.) When dad saw Tomeru, his leg had been badly infected because he had fallen on a rock which got stuck in his leg. From then on, my parents decided to start supporting Tomeru and his friend Ambzach.

Today Tomeru is about 20 years old. Something I did not mention before is that Tomeru’s name means miracle. I see Tomeru as a miracle in several aspects. First is that we had the privilege to meet him and to coincidentally run into him so many times. Now we let him know before we come so we can spent the whole week with us. His is family now, and I call him my brother. Second, is that his leg is now healed. At one point they even thought he might loose his leg, because the infection had gone to the bone, but now he is a champion karate competitor. And third is that  Tomeru now knows the Lord and has received the grace and love of our heavenly Father.

Tomeru is my miracle. Who would think someone would have so much joy in such poverty and turmoil. This past trip was my second trip and was even harder to leave this time. I knew how it felt to come back and the sadness I would feel from leaving loved ones. Not just Tomeru, but Ambzach (my sister whom I will talk about another time),  and all the other people I have met as well.

This song by Brooke Fraser sums up my feelings on Ethiopia pretty well. She wrote this song about her trip to Rwanda and the people that touched her heart while she was there.

Much Love,

Mere

DIY

Hi Friends!!

I always have these grandiose ideas to do these crafts I see or think of, yet never get around to doing them. I guess this is a problem for a lot of people because a new website was recently created by one of my favorite bloggers, adoredaustin, called MadethisLovethis.com. Basically, there is a new craft posted every few weeks with a deadline to accomplish it. Once you have finished the craft you can post it on the website and a winner is chosen for every project. Last week the roommates and I decided to try the first project; the t-shirt scarf. We went to a few thrift stores and picked out some old shirts. All this project involves is a t-shirt and scissors…so cheap, so easy.

Here is step-by-step what I did:

Our arrangement of thrifted shirts:

1)   Cut right below the arm of the shirt horizontally to the other side of the shirt.  Do the same with the hem.

1)   From one side of the sem, cut horizontally across the shirt in strips leaving about an inch uncut at the other side seem.

Stretch out the strands...if it is a cotton shirt the strands should curl up.

Run hand in between seem and then gather.

Voila!! You have a scarf!!

Look forward to a post next week with my friends modeling their finished product.

Much Love,

- Mere

Classic Simplicity

Sometimes a simple outfit speaks for itself, rather than focusing on accessories. I love accessories just as much as any other girl, but this outfit didn’t need any.  The outfit in three words: classic, fresh, and professional.  If you would like to transition this outfit into the night, I would switch the flats for heels, then throw on a fun handbag, and put on some red lipstick!

Pants: J.Crew
Shirt: Old Navy
Shoes: Cathy Jean
Sunglasses: Charlotte Russe

Have a great day!!

Modern Twist on a Classic

Audrey Hepburn has been an all time favorite for me, and when I look back the blame for this would have to be on my mom. When I was in elementary school she convinced me to rent "Breakfast at Tiffany's" at blockbuster and ever since I have been hooked. Although "Sabrina"would have to be my all time favorite of Hepburn's movies, "Funny Face" comes in at a close second. Hepburn's style in this movie is very simplistic yet so classy. I love everything she wears in this movie (even as the librarian at the beginning she still looks good) but maybe my favorite would have to be when she first arrives in Paris.
Here goes:

Banana Republic Trench Ruffle Nylon Jacket ($125)

 J.Crew Minnie Pant bi-Stretch Wool ($98)

Steve Madden 'Trouser' Laceless Oxfords ($69.95)

J.Crew Dream turtleneck Sweater ($68.00)

I feel like this would be a great outfit to wear on a plane. Warm, comfy, and classic. What do you think?
